Embassy Logistic Terms: Blank Sailing
– A blank sailing refers to a cancelled sailing. This could mean a vessel skipping one specific port, or the entire string is being cancelled.
The most common reason for a blank sailing is to reduce capacity in order to increase the rates.
This occurs when demand for space on vessels is low. For example during holidays such as the Chinese New Year and China’s Golden week.
Other reasons might be:
- Urgent ship repairs
- Congestion in certain ports
- A ship is being deployed on a different route
