Embassy Logistic Terms: BSC

A number of countries in Africa – among which Ivory Coast and Madagascar – require a waiver document for all import shipments. For example, a BSC (Bordereau de Suivi des Cargaisons) is required for all shipments going to Ivory Coast and Madagascar. This way the authorities in Ivory Coast and Madagascar have access to all information in the “pre-arrival phase”.

The information contained in the waiver document is as follows; shipper and consignee names, mode of transport, description of the cargo and its value, name of the transport vessel and the cost of shipment. The authorities in the country of destination must be in possession of the waiver document prior to the arrival of the vessel.

Each country has its own regulations for waiver documentation and in fact, some countries have a different name for the document

The ports in Ivory Coast for which a BSC (Bordereau de Suivi des Cargaisons) is required are:

  • Abidjan
  • San Pedro

The ports in Madagascar for which a BSC is required are:

  • Toamasina
  • Antananarivo
  • Antisiranana
  • Nosy Be
  • Mahajanga
