Delta surcharge

The Port of Rotterdam extends from the city of Rotterdam to the tip of the Maasvlakte. The Delta terminal at the Maasvlakte was constructed during the nineties of the previous century, when it became apparent that the old terminal in the city center was no longer able to accommodate the ever larger vessels. The base rates for container haulage are based on the old port in the city center, so the delta surcharge was introduced to cover the extra transport distance, which is 45 km per single trip.
