When transporting cargo which (in accordance with the IMDG code) is classified by the United Nations as hazardous, the shipping company imposes a surcharge on the seafreight, known as an IMO surcharge. The surcharge covers the additional handling of documents and creating a loadplan for the ports and the ship.
